Who is this for? Chess experience range from complete beginner up to casual tournament players. Kids groups: 5-14 year old, youth students, and adult learners
What’s Our Goal: Have fun learning chess and improve online rating through the program. Help every student graduate improve through the Chess 1000 Rating Ladder.
CHESS 1000 Program Format
- 12 weekly group classes in rolling basis
- Steps Workbook Puzzles Guideline from Xiao
- Tournament recommendation based on student experiences
Groups: There are three separate tracks based on student’s chess experience prior to the program. Each group will have a rating goal to work towards.

Pawn | Basic Chess Rules. Played at home or school | Lichess 1000+ |
Rook | New Tournament Players | USCF 500-1000 |
King | Advanced Tournament Players | USCF 1000+ |
What is Chess Rating: Online chess rating follows a similar formula to official USCF rating. Kids new to chess start with chesskid.com, after some experience, they can start on lichess.org
Logistics: We will use lichess.org for the lesson and Zoom for video interactions with students. Setup details will be provided after sign-up. Each class will have 3-6 students.
Schedule: Current class schedule. If any class has more than 6 students, we will create a new session.
- Monday Class: 6:15-7:15pm ET King Levels
- Thursday Class: 6:30-7:30pm ET Rook Level
- Saturday Class: 11:30a-12:30pm ET Rook Level
Registration: Join Chess 1000 because you are ready to start a life-long chess journey!
Price: $40-50 per student each class paid in 12-week cycles. Referrals can drop price to $35. Single class can be discussed for trial classes.
